This past Sunday we did a short road trip with some friends to San Ramon for a Jazz Brunch at Mi Rancho Bar and Grill. We arrived early to ensure a good parking space for the FJ. The event attracted about a couple dozen expats living around the area, many of whom we had never met before. It was a good opportunity to meet new folks and reconnect with old friends.
The band was headed up by Joe Anello an expat drummer from the east coast that rocked the New York Bebop sound reminiscent of the 1950s. The band was rounded out by locals who hailed from San Jose on sax, guitar and bass. They covered a great mix of songs ranging from Charles Mingus to Duke Ellington.
We decided to wrap up our evening with an amazing dinner from our favorite restaurant in San Ramon, Chepes. Chef Chepe greeted us at the door and rolled out the red carpet for us, again.
Retirement life is enjoying great music, great company and great food… any day of the week. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
